Ambasadorul SUA la ONU, Nikki Haley, cu fotografiile copiilor asasinati de regimul Assad in mana, a facut apel la organizatia asta inutila, pentru a incepe sa actioneze in directia eliminarii unui regim criminal, sprijinit, din plin, de Rusia. A fost un apel formal, pentru ca, in luarea de cuvant, a aparut o idee clar exprimata: atunci cand un forum mondial este impotent, atunci cand Consiliul de Securitate refuza sa actioneze, o tara ca SUA trebuie sa preia initiativa eliminarii raului:

„There are times at the United Nations when we are compelled to take collective action. […] When the United Nations consistently fails in its duty to act collectively, there are times in the life of states that we are compelled to take our own action.”

Haley a spus cele de mai sus, dupa ce purtatorul de cuvant al Ministerului de Externe al Rusiei, Maria Zakharova, a anuntat opozitia Moscovei, la orice actiune impotriva regimului Assad. In acelasi timp, presedintele Donald Trump a declarat ca regimul Assad a depasit, cu mult, orice limita, si acest ultim act este un atac impotriva umanitatii, si ca un raspuns ferm este de asteptat.
